Sommeliers sometimes call semi-dry Riesling daytime wines. Their whisper of sweetness is superb for light meals or salty snacks. If a dish is so intense or fiery try an off-dry Riesling. The residual sugar in the wine counters the heat, while the chiles in the dish make the wine taste less sweet.

Three Brothers Wineries maintains 11 acres of Riesling grapes on its estate located on Lerch Road in Geneva NY on the Northeast end of Seneca Lake. Using 3309 rootstocks we trained these plants to a vertically shoot positioned (VSP) training system. Four of the eleven acres were established back in 1980, and in 2006 we planted another 7 acres. Upon purchase of the vineyard, the entire trellising system was changed over to a VSP system to maximize fruit quality. The old vineyard vines grow in a Honeoye silt loam soil while the newly planted vines grow in a Cazenovia silt loam. Both soil profiles transition from a silt loam to a gravely silt loam at deeper depths. These are wonderfully productive soils on well drained 8 percent slopes with an inspiring view of Seneca Lake.
